Traveling With Ducks.. Tips & Suggestions? UPDATE! Problem Solved :D

i believe i would put them in diapers and would try to do my traveling at night so its cooler, and dark as they seem to rest at night

if they are in the car with you, they will be noiser during the day and pretty much silent at night.

It will be a day trip, that one fact i know for sure, but as for how theyll be travelling im still undecided...

If they were your ducks and you had to choose from the two options from my previous post (in the car & probably cramped, or the back of the ute in the hutch & roomie..) what would you choose?

As long as the hutch was covered properly to reduce wind, and create shade- I would go with the back of the ute option. They would have move room to move- you can give them food and water in there without creating too much mess to be cleaned from the car.
I think the ducks would be a little more comfortable if they werent crampt up for 12 hours. Obviously you would still need to stop to check on them regularly- but if they could at least stretch their legs- even if they bump around a bit- Im sure they would arrive happier duckies.
It would also reduce odour issues.

Ok the travelling duck problem has been solved!

because large travel cages are expensive, and cheap second hand cages are hard to find...

Sonja's Homemade Duck Carrier!!

Its not pretty but its perfect for the job

And finally a trial run:

Its a large moving box, with simple plastic mesh covered air vents on each side, a large vent on the top covered with fly netting, the door is two flaps closed and large plastic netting zip tied on one side that swings open for access and can be taped shut. The cardboard box is sitting on an old bread crate just incase it gets a bit soggy, so theres no risk of Ducky Drop Outs lol
Filled with straw for comfort, and i will be putting in a small deep water dish, and if its very hot they will get a couple of frozen water bottles to help cool them down

Did a trial run and it seems pretty roomie in there, and they dont seem to mind being closed in, so heres hoping for an easy, stressfree move

very nice!!! I made something similar for my duck Ming Mei when she was a baby. she was about a week old when I moved to Alabama from chicago and i didn't want her to get bored in the moving truck, so i made her a "Sky box" in the dash.

I'd put her in there for an hour or so at a time, so she could look out the window.
