Hello,

We have 9 hens and 1 rooster. Our roo, Elvis, has been aggressive with the hens - mounting them. I understand this is pretty normal behavior for a young rooster.

Yesterday one of our hens had a 2" diameter bald spot near her vent and also on her neck area. The hen lets me pick her up and seems to be eating/drinking - but prefers to stay in the coop. Normally she is out free ranging with the other girls.

There seems to be a raised bump area on her hind end that isn't normal - wondering about giving her antibiotics and how much to give. Both hen and rooster are about 11 months old.

Any advice?
Thank you!!
Pam

Are you certain that the 'raised bump' is not her oil gland?

A neighbor thinks it's her oil gland that's raised. I'm not sure. I isolated her from the others and saw no green poop (sign of infection). We love or hen - but are trying to avoid a vet bill right now.

Thanks,
Pam
