Alrighty, so my little chickies are probably about 3-3.5 weeks old. I would like to start giving them some treats. I'm trying to bribe them into being my friend.

Anyways, I am going to get some chick grit to offer them. Should I put that in their pen for a few days before giving their treats? Or just leave it in there full time? Can they over-eat that stuff?

Also, question about types of treats and preparation. I think I'm going to start out with some Cheerio's and some greens. Do I just get plain ole basic Cheerios, and crush them up a bit? And as for greens, what is the best to give younguns? I thought about getting some parsley or cilantro. I was going to offer lettuce, but I've read a couple of posts that sounds like lettuce is just a filler for them. So I'd rather give them something "useful". Do I need to do anything to the greens? Like cut anything off or anything? I tend to be a worrier, I want to make sure they get what they are supposed to. I would be so heartbroken if I gave them something bad or wrong or anything like that.

I also wanted to ask about the cooked oatmeal. Is quick oats okay? And do you prepare it just like it says on the box? I may eventually give them some oatmeal in a few weeks. I wanted to start off with some easy treats, and ease my way into giving treats.

Thanks!

They can have the grit given the same day as the treats that need to be ground in the gizzard. The Cheerios can be given whole just by trying to eat them they'll break them up themselves. Just about any thing green you eat they can eat. You can even give them grass. Many people put grass clods with the dirt in with them. they can pick at the dirt for grit they can use as well as eat the grass. Oatmeal can be cooked or fed straight from the box.
