Treating Bumble Foot, what else can I do?

Hi all, I have a Rhode Island Red hen who has bumble foot. I was sick and hadn't been out to check on them for a few days. Her foot is swollen to twice the size it normally is. I found what I believe is the scab. I have never treated bumble foot before but I have read a lot about it. I am going to clean her foot off and remove the scab later today. Should I clean her foot every day and should I bandage it? What else can I do? I have her separated from the rest of the flock. Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated! I am going to get pictures later today once she has calmed down.

Just an update, she is eating and drinking fine. She won't put any weight on her foot. I tried to pull off the scab thing but it was really stuck in there. She didn't react at all. I am planning to clean the foot then pull off the scab and put some triple antibiotic ointment/ pain reliever on her foot. I have some gauze that I am going to wrap around her foot. How long do I leave the bandage on and how often should I rebandage it?

You can soak her foot in warm water with epsom salts to bring that swelling down.. Dawg53 has given you an excellent link.

I would soak and clean the foot every day and leave her loose. With the soaking, that should help bring the kernal to the surface, and she can be loose during that. Then you should actually feel the kernal , if not , more soaking and massaging . Using very clean technique, make ONE slit. You can do alot of squeezing. But I would not be too eager to do the surgery. If you do, just make a slit where you can feel a hard area. If it doesn't appear then, more epsom salt soaking, then ointment and a bandage while the wound is still open. Then try again.

I would think with all that soaking that swelling should go down.
