Thanks for this thread everyone. Because of the great information and photos I can determine that my poor sweet black cochin Lou has frostbite on his comb, wattles and possibly the top of one foot. I noticed something wrong today when I saw the purplish black on his comb, but didn’t catch the extent of the wattles until roosting time. We snuggle every night for a few minutes (because he’s flippin huge and I reallllly want us to stay friends!) part of our snuggle routine is me rubbing his wattles and telling him what a good and handsome boy he is, so I know their usual “feel.” Today they’re hot and very swollen. Thankfully I stopped rubbing immediately. So I bundled him up, brought him in the house, and made a dash for BYC.

Keeping him inside is doable for a while, but wondering if I should go to the vet for some Vetricyn or is that something I can get at my farm supply store? So far it appears there is no broken skin, but lots of swelling. The comb is just a bit swollen, but the wattles are really puffy.
Any advice is welcome.

She is going to have an ugly dub job. Watch for infection that might get her into trouble during next cold snap. Infection can increase odds of frostbite on feet which is more than the cosmetic concern going on now.

Her comb appears to be infected, despite Vetrycin.
Will a shot of Penicillin G help with that? She is going to be getting Pen G for the egg binding, anyway.

I would concentrate treatment on the egg binding. If mine, she would be dubbed manually so she is not fighting two major infections at once. The wound from dubbing will be less of a challenge for her than dealing with necrosis.

I'm not positive she has an infection from the egg binding, the Pen G is just in case. Her coop was dirty, she won't eat, barely drinks, and of course has the infected comb. So with all that, I'm concerned that she is more susceptible to infection from the egg binding.
