We have four week-old chicks, one of them has a respiratory upset that we are treating with steam. Our boldest chick, Nurse Crane, hopped into the mug we were using to steam, and the water was very hot. we dried her off and she's resting now, but we're worried that she might be burned or shocked. Please any advice you have would be greatly appreciated! Both the local bird vets are booked out until June.

I would get the steam out. They don't need it.

For the burned chick, just like humans...run it under cool water for a few minutes and you can use Aloe Vera gel to sooth it. I'd keep her separate as that's could be painful for a couple of days.

A week old chick shouldn't be sick. Are they on an all-flock or chick crumbles? What is their bedding? Some chicks can be allergic to certain things and that could be what's going on.

I would give them Poultry Cell water every other day for a week and see if that helps.

Edit: I reread your post. Do you have four one week old chicks, or four week old chicks? I'd do the same thing regardless.

Just to clarify, the mug wasn't in their enclosure, we were holding the sick chick over it outside their enclosure while letting the others explore around. We didn't want to separate them and stress them out. Lesson learned!

Thank you for the advice for the burns!

They're on chick crumbles, and their bedding is pine shavings.

I will look into the Poultry Cell water, we're not familiar with that.
Thank you!

Awesome!

Most little sniffs and sniffles chickens get they can get over themselves, but a little vitamin boost helps them get over it.

There is something called VetRX that is nothing more than chicken Vicks. You could put some of that on her nostrils too, but most of us don't use that, vitamins are good enough!

That's reassuring - thank you. I'll get some vitamins. Do I put it in their water?
