Found a sick duck this morning and thought I would log her treatment. She presented depressed, not interested in food, and had green poop.

Treatment so far:
  • Weighed - 2kg at 10 am
  • Gave antibiotic (Baytril), Corid, & Baycox
  • Tubed 60 ml Gatorade at 10 am
  • Tubed 60 ml Gatorade at 11:30 am
  • Tubed 60 ml Gatorade at 1:30 pm
  • Tubed 90 ml baby bird food at 3:30 pm
  • Tubed 120 ml Gatorade 5:30 pm
  • Tubed 90 ml baby bird food 8:20 pm
Tomorrow
  • Weigh
  • Medicate
  • Tube 60-120 ml baby bird food every 4-6 hours
@Overo Mare, fyi.

How much different is it when tubing ducks vs chickens with all that down and different crop shape?
That's a great question. Tubing ducks is a little more difficult because of the shape of their crop and they are more likely to vomit because of the way it's shaped. It's most like a in the picture below:

We also need a pic of your patient. :D
I will get one.

Treatment today.
  • Weighed at 7:30 - still 2kg
  • Gave Baytril, Corid, Baycox, & metronidazole
  • Tubed 120 distilled water (distilled because Baytril can bind to the calcium in tap water) at 7:30
  • Tubed 120 ml baby food at 11:30

I'm running low on Kaytee Exact, so I broke out the stick blender and made a turkey starter gruel. Since it's not as fine as the Kaytee, I had to find "Big Bertha", the huge feeding tube (24 French)

120 ml turkey starter gruel tubed at 3:30 pm.
