treats for chicks

Oh, I didn't know you'd still have snow in Connecticut.

They might like finely chopped apples. Even....gasp... finely chopped hot dog bits! I know someone's going to scold me for that.

Nah, I won't scold you, but I won't buy any either! LOL, yeah still some snow. Rained today though so some more of it is gone. Ready for it all to be gone!

Learning all this...why would you be scolded about hotdog???

Sarah: I got some tsk-tsk and "finger wagging" about serving the chickens meat on another poultry forum. Even worse if there might be some chicken meat in the hot dogs, because then I'd be making them cannibals.

I say, what the chickens don't know, won't hurt them. Hot dog bits probably taste like delicious bugs, to them.

Mine like apples! I give them a slice and they do tug-of wars on it! They also love spaghetti, although not much nutrition. They also like yogurt. Mine like strawberry-flavored because of the tidbits in it.

Happy feeding!

If you ever have the chance to toss a bug in the brooder - do it. I think it's mostly a treat for whoever is WATCHING the event. My whole family gathers around to watch a cricket get dropped in with the chicks. It's hilarious. I feel a teensy bit bad watching the cricket get involuntarily "shared" between 15 squawking chicks but it's no different than our leopard gecko chomping one down really slowly I suppose.

We don't even need to watch TV at our house anymore...

hey hen,
i got some little tiny meal worms at my local feed store and gave some to my chicks and they went NUTS.
it was pretty entertaining.
i've read that no matter what kind of treat you choose, just don't over do it.
glad to hear they are doing well!

We have given them small worms and it's too funny! We call it "chicken soccer". One grabs the worm and runs and then it' a free for all! You can't go wrong with yogurt in the crumbles and fine chopped chives, scallions ,dandelion greens and other dark greens.Carrots too-shredded fine, hard boiled eggs too. Moderation is the key.

Hi all,
I'm new to chickens, and was wondering if baby chics still on crumbles will need grit for treats?
Thank you,
Ed
