Treats that are NOT treats

Quinoa is great for chickens. If you are trying to raise the protein levels in your feed just add a scoop of quinoa. I give mine a tin of generic sardines in olive oil once a week. They will knock you over for it. High in Omega 3 and the olive oil makes them glisten.
I add 2 kilo of hulled oats to every 20 kilo bag of mixed grain. None of my birds have exploded. I gave mine cooked pasta with sardines and raw egg tonight.

My chickens LOVE plain cooked pasta....it's hilarious watching them eat it. Running around the yard with big strings of spaghetti hanging out of their beaks...funny.

On pasta - one of my girls stumbled upon a stack of recently thrown out udon noodles we'd overcooked once. I've never seen her eat anything so fast. :hmm

The noodles being in the place they were was a once off, yet up to a month later she still runs straight off to the same spot the instant we let them out to free range, hoping there'll be more.

My chickens got a very nice unexpected treat recently - a whole side of salmon!

It had been in the freezer for a year, which I personally won't eat. But it was double-wrapped and didn't have freezer burn. And when I thawed it out, it didn't smell bad either. But since it was beyond MY limit, I tossed it into the chicken pen....

Unfortunately, a few fights did break out over it. But they didn't last long and everyone eventually got some!

A lot of times when I'm out grocery shopping, I will pick up a flat of tuna cans to feed to them. Sometimes I get it in water, sometimes in oil. It depends on which one is more in-stock and/or on sale!

Does anyone know if pomagranates are ok? They are in season right now and I was debating if I want to share my stash with them. I wanted to find out if anyone knows they are alright or not. I was leaning to just give them the poms and maybe toss the fleshy stuff. What do you all think?
