Hello All,
Last night a lot of high winds. Tree fell on aviary. We lost a female lady amherst. Stuff happens and then you deal with it. I'm not sure if I put this in the right thread, but I know that you are bird people and only we know what this feels like. Tomorrow will be a new day and it could have been much worse.

That's too bad, duncan. A couple of years ago the same thing happened to me. I lost all my Corsican Redlegged partridge. Probably will never get any again, they were imported from Spain before the ban.

And it always seems to happen just before breeding season.Sorry for your lose, but at least she is alive and may even return home at some point. She'll probably be seen at a bird feeder somewhere.I'm sure a neighbor or someone nearby has spotted her and don't know what it is.

I remember how horrified to come home and find a tree had decimated my chicken pen area. Fortunately, I didn't lose any hens but I was lucky. Sorry for your loss.

When I got up this morning I saw the down tree on top of the aviary...I thought it was a bad dream. I am just glad it was only one pheasant that was killed. The tree was removed and the damage was fixed in less than a day.

Tony you were right. I noticed that another of the female Amherst and a single red bishop female were missing last night, I looked for any dead bodies that I might have missed while the aviary was being repaired and I found none. I left a safety door open to the outside with food for the escaped birds incase they wanted to return. This morning the red bishop female was sitting inside the safety area of the aviary.
