I'll try the fake eggs. Maybe I won't have to feel like I'm on an Easter egg hunt everytime I'm out in their yard! I'm a bit surprised they are still laying.

I let them into my yard again today for a bit. Had the door open to the garage. Sure enough Annie Jones (Bourbon Red ) just had to explore. Daisy was following me around. I was watering & she just loves the dang hose. So Annie ends up in the garage loudly chirping her beak off! She gets so excited. You can really hear it in her voice. Food, dust baths and anything new she's like a little kid. It's so interesting how expressive their vocalizations can be. Daisy isn't as vocal. Although she has a specific chirp when she looses me in the yard or I go in the house. If I call to her she'll trill back. I'm still trying to sort out all the different noises they make. Understanding turkey in harder than understanding chicken talk.

The chicken spa is located at the back corner of their yard. It's their dust bath area. The turkeys use it to and have managed to dig a turkey size crater to dust in. Well...Grumpy decided to try it! Surprised she could get her fat butt out of the hole!

Ralphie...is tomorrow freezer camp day? Hope all goes well.

Had the chickens & turkeys loose in my yard this morning before work. Decided to run around to the front of the house to turn on the soaker hoses. Of course I was still in my pajamas, with "coop" boots. But it was early, nobody around. Unfortunately I left the gate open just enough for the chickens to sneak through & run down the drive after me. Quickly followed by the turkeys. What a mess herding them back. Miscalculated how many folks are driving or jogging by at 6:30. I looked like crazy bird lady. Oh well....at least the turkeys had fun!

I really like the Speckled Sussex. Easy, curious, smart, great foragers. Their spots change after each molt. I have a laid back group of hens. Double Laced Barnevelders, Australorps, and the Speckled Sussex. They are an easy group. No jerks or bullies. Betty is 6 years old and still laying about 3-4 eggs a week.

Aurora...is this a mature BR tom? How many girls do you have? I remember the pics of you in the hammock.

So I don't have a rooster. And I have only the two turkey hens. Keep trying to decide if I want a tom. I would love to have one but everything is pretty easy with the girls now.
