I'm seriously thinking of adding a tom this spring for my two girls. I have all winter to decide. But with one blue and one bourbon red hen....the color combinations could be quite interesting. I've had the girls now since July. More then enough time to decide I can manage them. So a tom may be in my future! I neeed to figure out the Porters calculator....the only one I know who can work it is R2elk!

Charmed....Charlie may not like plaid, but he does look handsome all fluffed up!

Aurora. ...I'm worn out just thinking about all the applesauce & butter butter you put up today! Wow! I'm impressed.

So I picked up Annie & plopped her in my lap. Daisy hates it. She resorted to pulling my hair to get my attention. Snot. She's is so possessive. I think it makes poor Annie nervous with Daisy circling. Turkeys are so interesting.

Your right Chaos. Poor wild turkeys roost in all types of weather. From what I read here a lot of folks turkeys prefer to roost in the open in all weather. Ventilation is the key, from what I understand. It's the built up humidity that causes the problems. Of course I live in the south and if it gets in the 20 ' s we think we are dying. Our gloves are purely decorative. It's the heat that kills down here.

Goronson...i think the most important part of any kind of training or behavior modification is consistency. That may be hard to achieve with a turkey.

Turkey behavior is so interesting. I've only had the girls since July and I'm fascinated. I've competitively trained dogs for 30 years so I may be over analyzing my turkeys behavior. However, from what I've read & observed with my girls is that they are rather trainable.

We were considering little turkey leggings for those long skinny legs & knitted snoods for their necks. Aurora was all set to design something! R2elk talked us out of it! Actually we were just being silly. But Aurora did try an orange vest on one of hers with disastrous, but hugely funny results! She tried it after one of Ralphie ' s young birds got shot by a hunter.

RALPH ...where are you??

MM....my Barnevelders are pretty decent layers....once the start! They are 3 years old now and still laying almost daily. They were hatched in February. They had a HORRIBLE first molt that fall. All turkeys and chickens still laying with no molts in sight. Kind of weird.

LOL...sounds like Banshee is trying to impress his new girl. Guess he figures she won't fall for a mom's boy. How is the new hen doing? Is she friendly?

I want a tom...but it's so zen right now with all the hens...i need to really think this through.
