So, Sonja in Colorado is reporting her hen just laid an egg. I'm kind of keeping tabs here...but we now have folks in Tennessee, Pennsylvania, New Mexico & Colorado getting turkey eggs. Anybody else have hens laying in December? Just kind of finding this interesting.

Ah....Ralph. ...yet again you've put it into perspective. Rehoming a turkey is like placing a dog. My dogs are not for everyone. I heavily screen a new potential owner. I can see the similarities in placing a turkey.

I'm sure that was a hard decision to make. But like you said, why keep them if they can't further your breeding program. Are you still considering a Bourbon Red and an RP?

Aurora has Adam x Pebbles eggs. They will produce Red Bronze. (Which is gorgeous ) I ran the calculator with a Red Bronze hen to JJ. Ton of colors possible. Just bringing that up as an option for another bloodline. Plus Adam is quite nice! 22 pounds at six month is a lot'a bird!

Get a dog crate. Fill with bedding. Buy a turkey harness. Drive two days. Load darling turkey girl. Put towel over crate so it's dark & she'll sleep. When making stops, make sure she doesn't get away while putting her harness on. Be prepared to be stared at while walking your turkey by all those walking their dogs. Maybe Ralphie will harness break one for you!

Bielies....the German engineered bird! A friend in mid-Tennessee started raising them a few years ago. Got a chance to spend time with them this summer. BIG birds, good layers and extremely docile! And quite attractive. This spring I'll be adding a few new hens to my flock. I'm really considering them. But my Speckled Sussex are getting so old I may just get a few more SS. Can't decide!

I used my turkey eggs to bake lemon pound cakes last night. The cakes are denser and moister. Taste great! First time I've baked with them.
