I am saddened to report Ethel is most likely no more.

We are holding out a slim hope she is on a stolen nest somewhere, the odds of this are near zero.

We will miss her.

My wife wants us to pick out a couple poults to train into lappers, she is pretty broken up over Ethel's demise.

Daisy, like JJ & Ethel were rescued from bad situations & given great lives. Call me crazy, but there seems to be a special bond because of that. Daisy is my special buddy & i would morn her loss. Ethel really was the perfect hen. I always enjoyed hearing stories about her. She was quite the lady.

Saw my first Malay chickens today. Holy geez! Friend just bought a trio. Unbelievable. Never seen anything like that before in my life. A bit off putting at first. The hens were standoff-ish. The rooster came loping toward us, I almost wet my pants. But he just wanted attention. Turns out he's a big baby. He's 27 inches tall. That's a lot of bird.

Thanks R2elk I'll take it away. When I go out she comes off the nest. Runs to the dust bath spa, then from there she runs to the zero entry wading pond. After she's damp & muddy she runs over to me to preen. Which involves splattering me when she shakes. She keeps an emergency eye on that nest the whole time. If a chicken looks like its getting close she will guard it.

Feisty....you really think those boys are going to let you do ANYTHING without their help! Around here I'm under the constant supervision of the "Inspector Generals". They may not be a big help, but they sure don't hesitate to comment!

Took Annie's egg away. Now she's sitting on an empty nest. But she does hang out with me when I'm out there. Wades in the pool, takes a dust bathe, forages, harasses me, then back on the nest. Put food & water by her and shes eating.

And that's so "turkey"...cant do a thing without their help! Spent most of the weekend outside. We got a break in the heat & humidity. Since Annie is sitting on air, that leaves Daisy at loose ends. Needless to say she was stuck to me like glue. Everytime I'd go in the house she'd hop up on the porch rail & just wait for me to come out again. I think she's lonely without her buddy. Maybe I need to add another turkey hen.

Aurora...I always maintain you need at least three of each variety of fowl. If something should happen to one, the other isn't left alone. That's the main reason I'd like a third turkey. Just waiting for a Mr. T baby! LOL!

Got that Ralphie? Waiting for a Mr. T baby. However, i did discover someone breeding golden Narragansett within driving distance. Tempting. Ralph, i could fly home from Minneapolis with a poult under the seat in front of me.....just saying.....

Yes well Annie is still sitting on air. Sort of. She comes & hangs out with when I'm out & will let me pet her when she's "sitting". I think Ralph was right...she's practicing!

I was sort of afraid to ask about Turkules & Adam. Maybe they will mature out of being PITA's.


Daisy is limping. Trying not to put weight on her right leg. I looked it over & can't find anything. Nothing seems broke, no bumble foot, no noticeable swelling. I need someone to hold her so I can get a better look at it. At this point I think she may have sprained something. She may also be a bit of a drama queen.

Hopefully you can change Coco's mind about going broody! She sure was a pit viper! Is she laying?

Aurora....is there anything better than a cuddly hen? I love it!

Had a few guys in the back from our local electrical company. They are changing out our meters to new smart meters. Of course both turkeys had to sit on the porch rail to supervise. Both guys are hunters. Daisy was flirting & let them pet her. She even trilled a bit. The one guys said he needed to rethink turkey hunting after meeting her. Guys spent more time talking about the girls than changing the meter. Most people don't pay much attention to my chickens, but are totally fascinated with the turkeys.
