Storm was inbound, ran out to put Turkey's in their run when there was a huge crack of thunder. Turkey's ran right by me into their pen. LOL! They usually saunter along, but they high tailed it. I read somewhere they can reach up to 25 mph running...they may have been close. I also read they can reach up to 55 mph in the air...really? That doesn't seem possible.

Flashpoint...we call them lightningbugs too. My uncle lives outside of Gettysburg. It's pretty there.

R2elk...figured you had bees this year. Several years ago on one of my trips up to Missouri a semi loaded with boxes/hives overturned. They actually closed the expressway and diverted all traffic to service roads. Seems they (are there bee farmers?) winter bees down here & relocate them north in the spring.

Boy did we have a hot & humid weekend. I've had an explosion of useless weeds in the turkey/chicken yard. I don't use chemicals around my birds/dogs, so I've been hand digging them out. I take a stool & a box fan! Only way I could stay out for more than 10 minutes. My issue is both turkeys would hang out between me & the fan effectively blocking my air. And the chickens had to stick their beaks into what ever I was digging. Annie would get up & look into my bucket of weeds and pretty much pull them out & scatter them. Takes twice as long to get as anything done with all my helpers. However, I do enjoy their company! Twerps!

Aurora....hope a swarm finds your box! A few of my friends raise bees and just love it. I guess its time consuming but what a cool hobby.

Ralphie....whats going on with your breeding program? Are you going back to the calico flock? I know you were debating it. Will you be showing any of the turkeys this year? If a duck can win Best in Show show at the Ohio Nationals... I'll bet Snitch can win BIS at your local shows! Every judge in the country knows something other than a chicken went BIS in Ohio. That should open doors at local shows!!

Aurora thanks...I liked that pic too. She was one tired turkey! That brown thing is a big rock on the seat of the wire bench. When a turkey launches from the back, the bench would fall over. Since I've weighted it with the rock, all the chickens & turkeys use it to file their beaks.

No secret I take my girls for a stroll around the front yard for a graze prior to bedtime. Why do men always want selfies holding a turkey? Two guys in a pickup stopped to talk about the girls. (new neighbors) I had to take their pics holding a turkey. While this was going on, a guy pushing his baby in a carriage stopped to talk & he wanted a pic too. Women don't seem to do this. They just want to pet the girls. What up with the selfies?

I agree....your birds need to be in their pens at night for their own protection. Coons, owls, you name it...lots of nighttime predators. They are young, start training them to go into their pen now.
