About 2 this morning the coonhound started barking & clambering at the back door. Thought he had to potty. Let him out. He raced to the back & I heard a fight ensue. Coon. By the time I got shoes & flashlight...he had killed it. He had a claw mark. Wish I could have witnessed the take down

I needed to get the poults out of the brooder so I let the Blue Slate hen and her 5 three week old poults out of the grow out pen. After I got the poults out of the brooder, I found out she was out beating up on another hen. During the fight, I took the three week old poults and put them in with the others in the grow out pen.

Later the hen was fussing wanting her adoptees back and keeping all of the chickens out of the coop. I let her back into the grow out pen and everything finally calmed down. She now has 28 adoptees instead of 5.

R2elk! That hen qualifies for moma of the year! 28 babies!! What a gal!

Hey folks! I've been sick. Finally better. Was getting pushed to get a covid test but it's an 8-9 hour wait. PLUS what if I have it & they try to put me in the hospital?? There is no way they'd let Daisy take naps with me!! Not leaving Daisy! She was a huge part of my recovery. She'd sit in my lap forever giving me side eye. As if she knew something wasn't right. So I fought it out with my Turkey's help. Turkeys can be amazing. Of course my sister was completely freaked out and threatened to drive down here. However! Shes expecting her first grandchild at any point. So I was saved!! So that's what's going on here! Missed you all!!

Between Daisy & the coonhound...they reduced my stress. And annoyed my sister. Blossom kept yapping at her & Marigold wanted her sandals. Teach her to come down here with painted toes. The hund kind of ignored her & stayed curled up in bed with me. Daisy was all about me. She loves her moma. As Fred knows...my pets are very different than hers!

Other than your flock is eye candy....what strikes me is that with all going on in this woman's life, she took the time to make sure her pet turkey was in a safe place. I think that's cool. Was on the phone. Daisy in my lap. Friend said to me that a turkey in my lap was highly unusual because they are mean & wild. Turkeys just get a bad rap I guess. Keep telling folks they can be big sweeties.

Mine are sweeties. Everyone I've had bonded to me and run up looking for attention. But as most of you know, I spend a LOT of time with them
They will figure it out on their own time. I can now pick up everyone in the flock, sit down & give them neck & wing runs. They close their eyes & tilt their heads back. Thoroughly enjoying it. That's until Daisy shows up & tries to pull their tail feathers out! Boy is she a jealous hussy!

Well Iris has a new home and a hubby! Friend has been bugging me about her. He is down to 2 hens & has been looking for another for his tom. He took her this morning and shes already squatting for him. Apparently a sex starved hussy! The owner is a super on our job site. Wish I still had it but he sent me a pick of him driving to Memphis with his tom. Who is standing on his trucks back seat, full display and his head resting on my friends shoulder. Hes very pretty RP. And quite a sweetie.
