tried the cabbage dangle yesterday

We have used the cabbage several times now. Especially when we are gone long periods of the day to keep them busy inside the coop. It is like watching children play tether ball. Such great fun. My 5 chickens destroyed a 3 lb head of cabbage in less that 6 hours.

I have a half head of red cabbage in the fridge, and it's starting to get kinda dry. Was thinking about using that for a snack/toy. Is there any reason that red cabbage wouldn't be a good treat?

Go for it, but don't be surprised by the ugly poo.

yeah, I had thought of that, LOL.

But I'm not sure if it will matter. I just came in from the run. I hung a chunk of the red cabbage and it might as well be a big rock for all they're concerned. They are all huddled up in the opposite end of the run looking at it, and at me, with a very suspicious eye. Even tearing small pieces off and tossing them in isn't doing it. I'll leave them alone with it for awhile and see what happens later. Wonder if I'll get purple eggs?
That reminds me... One day I threw out some things that were left after lunch and there was part of an orange that Rick didn't finish. The next morning we got an egg that had an orange seed in it. Has anything like that ever happened to anyone else?

I think that would be . . . totally . . . impossible.

I was taught that if you hear or read or see something that doesn't make sense to you, you should question it.

Lettuce was the first addition to their regular feed that my chicks would eat. They did well with it, for awhile. Then, they seemed to grow bored with lettuce and really will no longer even try it.

Haven't grown tired of plucking plain old grass, tho'.

Mine loved their cabbage also. I hung it from a short bunge strap and it bounced every time they pecked it.. lol even hit one of em in the back of the head.. she didnt know what had hit her.. lololol

I give my girls cabbage lettuce or anything interesting like this, I have used wool to hang it up and have great fun watching them, we get spring greens ( like a leggy leafy cabbage here) they are very long and my girls are so practiced now they can strip it in about 30 minutes, but they have great fun. I had some small latterns to hang in the garden and they have spikes to hang them on so I have pinched 2 and put them in the run, so I can hang a variety of veg for them, they love it.... hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.

The idea is that if something doesn't make sense, you question and see if there is a way that it could be true. The idea isn't to just claim that whatever you don't believe in to be impossible, haha.
And, you know, at first I was laughing over this, until I realised that by claiming that something I said happened, that I saw firsthand, is impossible, you are in essence saying that I'm lying. Now I'm offended, not amused anymore.
