Trimming chickens fuzzy feet?

Good morning, everyone — I have a bit of an odd question.

I ordered a Wheaten Olive Egger rooster (born september 29th) and knew there was a chance he might have a beard, muffs, and maybe even some fuzzy feet.

I’ve had a rooster with fuzzy feet before, and I’m convinced it made him less heat-tolerant (which is definitely a thing in the tropics). But this little guy doesn’t just have fuzzy feet — he’s wearing full-on fur boots already!

So, my question is: does anyone ever actually trim their chickens’ foot feathers?
And furthermore would feathered feet be passed down to teh offsping?

Yes, a rooster with feathered feet would pass that to his offspring.

If the hens have clean feet, the chicks would probably have an in-between amount of foot feathering, rather than being as fluffy as he is.

As far as trimming them, you would have to carefully examine all the feathers to make sure none of them still had their blood supply before cutting them. Sometimes there will be one or two new feathers coming in even when the bird is not molting.

Iowa is far from the tropics, but it can get into triple digits with accompanying humidity above 90 percent in summer. I have never had an issue with any of my feather-footed birds (Cochins, Marans, Faverolles) tolerating heat any better or worse than the clean-legged birds.

I would not attempt to trim feathers, for the reason cited by @Finnie, as well as because I love the galloping gait of feather-footed breeds.

Yeah, I love my feathered feet and legs too! Some people complain that they get too muddy, but I’ve not really noticed it being any worse for them than it is for my clean legged birds. Maybe I just accept that mud happens.
