Trouble "offing"

@ Annageckos - I think that's a great idea, actually. I'm more the science-y, dissecting, precision type anyway. I'm gonna check that out. Thanks.

Do you have a hubby that can do it for you? Until you feel comfortable enough to do it yourself? I plan on one day, offing my own chickens and ducks. Until then, I believe hubby can do the "offing" and I can do the rest

Until I work up enough of a "skin" to do it mindlessly.

No. Not at all. You just need to not name your food.

I've learned to reserve names for my show animals and I'm very picky about what I keep. Sometimes, I'll even distance my heart until they've proven themselves on the show table. I give them all the same care but I only let a very few into my heart. Those I let in, I cannot/will not eat.

Those are my pets.

All of my ainmals have had names. Dinner, supper, rotisseree, BBQ, pork chop, bacon, Tbone.. Porterhouse was my favorite. He broke my foot but man was he delicious!

I have two turkeys named: Mr and Mrs Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinner lol

I started doing that when I was in 4-H as a way to remind myself that we ARE going to eat them and they are not pets. I started doing it again when my kids started 4-H and they know they can play with the laying hens and breeding rabbits but not the "soon to be eaten" ones. Or in the case of the rabbits, sold since I just can't make myself eat them.
