Troubles at our Tractor Supply Company!

Our tsc just opened last friday night,I asked about chicks and they said not this weekend because there would be to much going on,so I hope that means that they will do better than some of the other stores.

If it saves pain and suffering then, I think it is worth a try. But, be sure to write directly to TN.

Kelly G. - they may - just to get them out of the store. I wouldn't be surprised at all. They are going to be very paranoid about all living creatures within the stores under their care.

I don't know how much space they legally need to allow for chicks. They obviously need to have better guidelines for their employees, because they have some that have no idea what they are doing. They have many that do. Better guidelines, if followed, would provide adequate care at all locations.

The chicks need enough space so that they can actually move to get to food and water. I understand them not wanting to keep weak chicks on display or for sale to the customers. They should have a spot set up in the back for them, until they recover, are treated if they choose to or are euthanized. That's what pet stores do. It's a business and I understand that. They should also be following the laws for proper disposal of dead animals. One of the reasons for those are to prevent the spread of disease.

I don't think it would be very difficult to remedy this situation. They just need to make a couple of fairly simple changes. From what other people have posted that have worked for TSC or seen and heard things while shopping at these stores, I don't think this was just an isolated incident. I do think the corporate office needs to look at their policies.

I don'y know why stores don't place orders on resurve. I mean say they have 15 people ordering 6 chicks, they would have less work in the end for then to do ,as they wouldn't have top hold them as long.

I posted this in another thread last night, but here is my recent experience with our local TSC............

I went to our local TSC last week and looked at their chick bin...... it was nearly empty and the few that they had left didn't look healthy at all. Could it have been because there was absolutely NO FOOD or WATER in any of the brooders? everything was empty and they were panting really bad. I took the waterers out and went to the restroom to fill them. I told an employee that they needed food and he said he would get it.... "later". GGGRRRRRR! Well, Then I went to look at the rabbits and it was WORSE!!! The bunnies were listless and very scrawny looking. They appeared to be panting heavily as well even though their water jugs were full of very dark yellowish liquid. Now, I have rabbits, and I have used vitamin supplements and antibiotics in the water and it was OBVIOUS by the DARK yellow color of the water that someone used WAY TOO MUCH powder when they mixed it. I checked the bottles and they were stopped up with the thick powder that didn't get mixed well, so they rabbits couldn't drink. IT WAS PITIFUL! At this point I told the manager on duty that the condition of these animals was considered cruelty and that they had a responsibility to take care of them. I would be back to check from time to time and the next time I see them in that condition in obvious need of food and water that I would be contacting the humane society. So far so good I have been back to the store twice since then and they have ALL been clean, well fed, watered, and healthy! Let's hope they keep it that way!

I have 65 chickens. TSC has about say 150. I wasn't ready and did not have enough supplies for my chickens. So now I put them in seperate BOXES that I know TSC has and those 100 gallon livestock WATERERS that I know that they could dig out and put half in there. Then they could sell it for 10% off easily. Thats what makes me so mad. I the consumer has respect enough to go and spend money on something that I need to both raise and sell my chickens. TSC I think needs to go that extra mile instead of doing that. If I could spend an extra $50 and make sure my 65 chickens were happy and healthy and not over crowded, then I am sure that TSC could get at least an empty box and sort them out. Granted the TSC store around here, both of them have 4 tanks each. 1 for ducks and the other three for chicks. They had received an order for 300. Well they brought out anoter tank and made sure that they were not overcrowded and were healthy. Plus this TSC knows more about them than some of the other ones that you all have said. So if one TSC could do that then why not the others? If you are going to sell animals, you need to have the right equipment, space, time and alot of experince. TSC headquarters thinks that they can send these TSC stores a little note on how to take care of them and they are fine. Well what about if one is sick. If one is not looking the right way. and WHAT BREED IT IS. Sorry. I just believe that stores need to take care of birds that they receive and if they can't do it then bring it up. Animals need to be treated with respect also. When I have to slaughter a chicken or cull a baby chicken or kill a cow, I am not disrespectful to them. So why can't they be more respectful to animals that are just tiny and cull them instead of suffocating them

When these bad situations are found in TSC or any other including pet stores the media is one of the best to contact even if only in name. Most stores don't want to be negative Headline News! To those of you who have stepped up for the animals caught in these horrendous situations

Unfortunately some jack ass is going to get sensitivity training to tell him it is not ok to put a living creature in a plastic bag and tie it up and throw it away. You gotta be kidding me! I mean I know plenty of folks that would take them and raise them until they were ready to be eaten.

Well after reading all these posts I give some serious KUDOS to our TSC in Zachary, La.!! All their tanks have clean shaving, full waterers & feeders, coverings on top and at least one if not 2 heat lamps in each tank!!! I've been there prob 5 or 6 times since they started getting their chicks & ducks and it's been the same everytime!!
