We love fishing but I'm typically a bass or catfish fisherwoman not so much trout but this year my son really wants to go trout, so my question is what kind of rigs, bait, or lures do you recommend? I typically use a Carolina rig with Butter Worms, Mealworms, Power bait, or rooster tails. Is there anything else that you might recommend?

Small stream trout? I would use a small mepps or similar spinner. I have done a lot of fly fishing and nymphs work really well. Good luck!

Yes Stream or Lake, I would like to do fly fishing but don't think my son is ready for that lol. Thank you so much

If you fish a lake I would use a size 7 or 9 silver/black or gold/orange rapala. The browns will be cruising the shallows this time of year and they are pretty easy to pick up. I used to throw stickbaits every spring for them back home and have caught a pile of fish.

I didn't ever think of grabbing any of them. I know trout are so picky though about what they eat, I hear that if you can get light colored minnows that they go nuts over them too.

Trout, I assume you're talking the stocked variety, can be really stupid. They'll eat almost anything. I've had great luck using corn, hot-dog pieces, mini-marshmallows, commercial salmon egg baits, almost anything. For storebought bait it's hard to beat a crappie minnow (check laws) or a nice wiggly angleworm hooked through the center.

Once they become acclimated to life in the wild, creepy crawly things you can catch under rocks and logs in the water work extremely well. In season large grasshoppers are dynamite. They will also instinctively strike small spinners, spoons and minnow baits. When fish are running larger I like to run a small shad rap blue/silver trolled slow behind a canoe. When in doubt, cast a silver/white blue fox vibrax in the smallest size apropriate for your fish.

Think of them like little tiny smallmouth bass and you'll do just fine.

Fishing for rainbows in the streams I always used the salmon eggs. Whole kernel corn in a can or get some cheese and make you some tiny balls works too.

I never thought of cheese, I know catfish like the stinky cheeses! Thank you guys so much!!!
