Hi there.
I hatched my first runner ducks from eggs bought online. They are trout colour and I have been reading about blue colour variations and apricots but haven't got my head around the colour genetics yet.
Here is a picture of the parent ducks. ..

And here are our ducks at 4 weeks old. There was other eggs hatched from another seller so we also have 3 black and 1 lavender (?). Sorry for the poor photo, they had already gone to bed when I decided to post...

I know it's not the best picture but can anyone tell if they are normal trout or blue? There are some photos below of them when they were younger, I can get better ones tomorrow of them outdoors. ..

Sorry, for some reason my phone won't let me upload the other images. I'll get better ones of them outside in the morning.

They look like a cross with a Mallard.... The parents anyway... I'm attempting to get some that look like the parents from my mallards and Runners.... I wonder if the next gen would look like yours..

they look like pure runners to me they would be a bit more stocky or smaller if mixed with a mallard and definetly not be able to stand in 100% perfect runner position like yours.

Hi Kizma,
You have some beautiful trout runners. They are not mixed. You can tell the mixed ones. Those will never stand totally straight like a wine bottle. The better quality ones have a straight line from the head to the tail and you have that

The trouts with the blue or brown dilution are cool. Like a lighter shade of trout with the same patterns.

If you want to read more about runner colours, I recomend : "Colour Breeding in Domestic Ducks" - Mike & Chris Ashton
It has some nice pictures of trout runners.

I am still learning as well, and found that book so valuable.

Good luck.
