What kind of spray? All I could find was its best to leave them alone as they can release a toxin

One I use is called Lepecid, and I'm not sure you have it up there.

It's mainly for botfly and injuries. I use it on wounds for pretty much any animal, and it can be used like Blu Kote.

I have some acorn squash as well, I'm not as impressed with those plants, they're much weaker, paler and smaller than the butternut. The seeds being 3 years old might have something to do with that though.
