So, I candled the eggs under my broody hens today. 4 of Chesta's eggs were infertile, and the 5th one was missing .

Out of the other 3 eggs, 1 was dead and the two others seem to be doing great! I also found a new egg in the nest which was developing.

Out of my 8 eggs, only 2 actually have a chance at hatching... I wonder why all of Chesta's eggs were infertile.

Sounds like our first hatch. Crazy chickens kept laying eggs in Parakeet's nest, she ended up with a whole dozen. -_-
Only one hatched. She was an awesome chicken.

I think it might have had rabies. But it was so skinny mom thought it was a young coyote

Well, I've got the taste of revenge in my mouth.

There's this mange-ridden fox that's been wreaking havoc in the whole neighborhood single pawed, IN BROAD DAYLIGHT, and it got my precious Brucie Wayne while we were at church tonight.

I sic'ed Aspen on em.

Cornered the tricking thing in a pipe.

And dad had to shoot it TEN TIMES BEFORE THE STUPID THING DIED.

HE WOULD SHOOT DOWN THE PIPE, AND IT STARTED CRAWLING TOWARD HIM!!!!!

TOWARDS THE HUMAN, WHO WREAKS OF ADRENALINE AND GUNSMOKE AND DOG, AND WHO WAS POUNDING SHOTGUN SHELLS INTO ITS HEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But he's dead now. And I am EXTREMLY happy. >=]

You're lucky, you get to have 37 chickens. I only have 16 (and they're bantams!).

Chesta was with one of my roosters about 2 months ago, but she is currently with a 4 month old cockerel (Lupin).

What I really wanted was for one or two of Chesta's eggs to hatch, I really like Chesta. She is the friendliest hen I have out of 8!

Yeah. But either Brucie was REALLY distracted with that hole she was digging, or that fox had MAD ninja skills. She was 20 feet from any structure on the place, and the ducks or other chickens would've cackled if it snuck up by the coop!

Ah. They only stay fertile for two weeks max once they've been mated. If she was only with Lupin for a couple days before she started sitting full time, that's probably why so few are fertile.
