Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

Ah, okay :p i want some, but Dad says no...

Ah. Well maybe you can turn him around, I mean they have ALOT going for them. The only reason I bought the eggs (ok there are several reasons) but the main reason is mom has been saying she wants guineas for a couple years now and keets ain't cheap. The second is that they eat all the nasty bugs, the third is that they're pretty decent as meat birds and last but not least depending on your climate they can lay between 150 to 200 eggs a year. Oh and did I mention they find 90% of their own food? Or that they can lay as early as 3 to 4 months?

Indeed it is. Oh yeah, I forgot snakes. :p some people have seen their flocks chase grown coyotes and dogs off their property. Me either.

(Granted the laying at 3 to 4 months depends on a lot of factors and they don't always lay that young but they can.)

:)

Doesn't matter to me as long as they forage well and lay well. Now my family isn't too big on white birds (as shown by the fact we got brown leghorns instead of white) because they make easier targets but other than that I don't care what color they are.

Our family LOVES white Leghorns.. We have quite a few. Those are the only white ones we have though. Do you have a lot of predators?

I had white leghorns last year (ok granted these were from a guy off Craigslist.....) And they were POL (or supposed to be) when we got them but its was 5 months before any started laying and by that time it was too late. But I'm willing to give them another shot.

Depends on the year mostly, sometimes we do sometimes we don't. The dogs keep them away for the most part.
