Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

So, Sarah. I think I might have a hen going broody. She sat on the eggs for the latter part of the afternoon, when I tried to get them, she puffed up and growled, but did not peck me, her chest looks a bit barer than usual, and she was sleeping on then eggs when I closed them up. Whaddya think?

If she is indeed broody, is it OK if I leave her in the coop with everybody else until next week?

1. She's in the earliest stage of broodiness. Make sure she's still faithfully in the box for a few days at least before confirming her broody. ;)
2. That depends. Do you want to have her hatch the eggs in the regular coop or will you be moving her to a brooder coop?

Awesome, she better stick to this. How many eggs can a Speckled Sussex comfortably manage?

I have a brooder coop (kinda) and she will raise chicks in there if she hatches them, but I'm going out of town for the weekend, so I'm thinking when I get back on Tuesday, if she is still sticking to it, I'll move her Tuesday night. Sound like a plan?
