True-breeding Olive Eggers...almost there...

Nice looking birds. I love the clean lines, beautiful coloring and alert eyes.

I make it even more simple on my breeding and grow out pens, I use tractors. I do not mass produce and do very selective breeding so select a size that is right for the breeding birds and we move it every week or less, depending on number of birds. Fresh grass, bugs and soil equals very happy, healthy birds.
Though I must tell you, migratory birds will still bring disease and sickness to your flocks if they are outside. There is no getting around that. Regardless if you have it covered, floating feathers, poop and mucus can still get your birds sick.
But we do what we can and you sound as if you have the right of it.

"Backcross 2", the second backcrossing to Marans after the initial F1. That's a couple steps and a sideways jump from where these ones are, but it's a good back-up rooster, just in case.

Beautiful eggs and birds is all I can say. Good job and keep us posted with pics of your projects. If you have to rehome any roos LMK, I would gladly give him a great home.

nice work. good job.

I am indeed working on an olive egger project myself, the first phases of it anyways...my initial crosses have consistently yielded a lavender/steel color with copper hackles and smoky grey chicks so I'm waiting for them to grow out to see the end results...it's more for fun but I like what I'm seeing. Will post pictures soon.

F1 X P1= BC1

If you crossed an F1 to the initial parent, the resulting offspring are BC1.

The 1's should be subscripts. The forum does not allow for BB code in the post that would produce a subscript.

Right, but in the case I was referencing I crossed B1 to P1, thus giving B2 as I said.
