True Wheaten Ameraucana??

@chensley
How old is your chick? I am trying to sex my 10 week old Ameracauna. I was thinking/hoping a pullet but I think I see saddle feathers forming. Wasn't good enough lighting to get a picture of them as I pick her/him off the roost to look, I'll try again tonight. But in the meantime, opinions are always appreciated ☺️

If that is really just 10 weeks.... well...that comb sure is bright... so that = male

I added in a photo of possible saddle feathers and I tried to find some hackle feathers but didn't see any, yet. I think this is a good comb picture.

Yes, in the photo of the 4month old... the comb is still so pale.... a clear female (and of course, since it is a wheaten, and they are sexually dimorphic, also clearly female)

In the photo of the 10 week old, a super bright comb, so clearly male.

Read great article today about history of Easter Eggers, Aracaunas, Ameraucanas, Americans and more. Very enlightening. Cannot capture the web address but it is titled Easter Egger: Everything You Need to Know About This Chicken. Was really eye-opening! Everybody who has ever heard (or said) "That's not a REAL Aracauna" or not a real Ameraucana" (and I include myself) should read and STUDY this article. There is more to the Easter Egger than meets the casual eye! It's a breed deserving of more respect than it currently enjoys, it's time, in my opinion, for a change. Read the article. And then decide what your lovely pullet is! And then respect, love and cherish her!

Personally, I don’t think ameraucanas/araucanas are any “better” than EEs, but the misinformation surrounding those breeds is frustrating.
