TRULY, what kinda chicks did they sell me ?

exactly I'm getting chicks too and I was going to TSC. Until I read the threads on this site about them. I'm going to Orscheln instead

There's a thread on the breed/gender board with a photo of a barred Rock that was sold as a Rhode Island Red at a different feed store. It's not TSC, it's feed stores in general that are not brimming with folks who have chicken knowledge. You can accept that the chicks may be a surprise, do research to prepare, bring a chicken-keeping friend, or buy from a knowledgeable source. Going to a different feed store chain might make you feel better but it's a faslse sense of security.

I agree with this 100%

For anyone planning to buy from a feed store, the best thing you can do is to familiarize yourself with chick pictures of the breeds you're interested in (there's plenty online, just google "barred rock chick" for instance) or even print them out/take a catalog from a hatchery. If they don't look like the pictures you have, don't buy!

I remember a long time ago I called my feedstore and asked if they had Swedish ducks. They said yes. I went there, and they had a bin full of solid brown ducklings--Khaki Campbells. I knew what they were so I didn't buy, but they even had a sign up that said Swedish ducks, so I'm sure other people did. And it was a local hardware store, not a big chain like TSC.

The only ones that color at my local TSC were Tetra Tints, which I think I read on here somewhere are usually some sort of leghorn mix. Usually turn out to be white with sporadic flecks of black here and there. I googled tetra tints and found rather gorgeous birds. Almost (ALMOST) made me want to go back to TSC and grab some. What saved me was the fact they only sell chicks in bunches of 6. I would only want one to add to my current flock. Oops, make that FLOCKS. Yes, I've been bad at Chicken Math lately.

We have 2 TSCs within 20 minutes of where I live. The one that I went to, not only told me they were going to lay brown eggs, but that they were reds. Well, I wound up with white leg horns that will only lay white. Oh, also that they were fairly tame and don't really fly...these lil ladies are totally opposite. I am not too happy with that one store

To the OP:

Thanks for asking this, I have 6 chicks from TSC that I wasn't sure of the breed. Mine look exactly like yours, and I was thinking they were probably Leghorns. I'm happy about this, as I wanted good egg layers! I have 25 more mixed chicks coming the middle of April, and 5 of those are Leghorns also. Lots of eggs! Yeah!

I agree that everybody should look online and print pictures to take with you so you have an idea what you are getting.
Of course TSC should have people that know what they are selling so you don't have to play guessing games.
I love my white leghorns though.
Better layers than my sexlinks and eat less.
One is so friendly that she jumps on my shoulder all the time(can get annoying if she steps in something.)
