Trusting my rooster

No he didn't..and I've just gone out and he's a mess now all bloody and hurt. My husband is putting him down. I do not see any signs of a predator and my one remaining hen has just a tiny bit of black blood on her back She's not injured at all. What could possible get in and do this? The coop is closed up at night and this is happening during the day?

Lots of things could be doing this. Regardless of what "it" is you need to get a handle on security and fast. 1 chicken is not going to make it in her own she needs a flock. I wish you the best and hope you take some serious steps to identify and eliminate your predator.

Aaaaw Crystal1970 I am so very sorry for your additional loss

If it was me, I would bring the remaining gal inside and as the predator will most likely be back, are you able to borrow or purchase a critter cam? If not, as it is happening during the day, are you or anyone else able to keep an eye on the coop.

As ChickenChaser9 mentioned, your remaining chicken is going to be lonely but I would not think about getting her some company until you figure out what is going on.

I noticed on an earlier post you mentioned that “the top is open”, is that the top of the run? As in no netting etc? You might be dealing with an aerial predator, especially as you also mention “no tracks”.

Once again, I am sorry for your loss.
