Trying to Clean House

I think the kitchen might be my goal for the day. I'll just keep repeating in my head: Shine sink, shine sink, shine sink. And then I'll yell at the kids: Pick up the floor, pick up the floor, pick up the floor. Who do you think gets to play the Wii first?

I cut wood all day yesterday in the snow so today is lazy day..I hurt lower back and left hip and right shin got bruised and scraped about six inches long from slipping off the wood trailer...I will shine my sink and get the laundry done but thats probably it!

I get a lot more cleaning done when I convince myself that Facebook and BYC are both down for maitanence work. I've had mom shut down the router so I would actually get something done. This dang forum just tempts me.

Those are my downfalls but I dont have enough courage to have my son shut down his router...yes his ! He pays the internet bill and I just sponge off him! He even gave me his laptop!

Have you ever tried breaks. Set a timer. If you clean for 30 minutes, take a 15 minute break. If you clean for and hour, a 30 minutes break. However long you clean, take a break half that long. It helps me from not getting burnt out.

If we are cleaning for company, I just do the visible rooms. It looks clean, but is it? Laundry washed, clutter cleared. BUT if it's cleaning for the sake or organization or to get it clean I do steps.

Anything that doesn't belong in that room goes in THE BOX. Every room has a box for their room, they are just hampers.

After that, laundry is taken to the wash.

Start at the highest surfaces and clean, such as cabinets, counter, drawers for the kitchen.

By then it's time to change the clothes to the dryer.

Vaccum, shampoo, vaccum again and then bring back in the laundry

2 thoughts here:
1) take a small notebook with you-PREFERABLY one of those freebie ones that advertise something--to make notes about cleaning WHENEVER you're stuck sitting and waiting for, like, a car oil change
2) make lists of "5 minute jobs"
These can be jobs that take only a few minutes to do and they're DONE
or
These can be big jobs broken down into smaller jobs

Frustration starts from being overwhelmed by the enormity of any job. Just consider: It took awhile for everything to get messed up, so it's going to take awhile for it to get cleaned up.

For instance, I'm cleaning up my bedroom, and I have a mess in the closet and on top of my dresser-BOTH are going to take awhile since I DON'T want to move the items to another place and re-clutter. So, I'll focus of what on my dresser needs to be hung up in the closet. Then, I break the job into smaller, short time put-aways. Once the dresser is clean, I can look at myself again.

I have one, never use it.
only 3 of us and I am the type that while cooking, I wash every utensil and pot while cooking

I can do or do without a dishwasher, but it really saves me time DESPITE the fact that I prewash my dishes. Even though I know that putting my hands in hot soapy water has always kept me away from colds and flu more than any other reason, I don't think I'd like having to wash and dry absolutely every dish/pot/pan/utensil by hand.

If you have a WalMart, buy this additive they sell--LemiShine. It clears up the calcium residue that you get from hard water. THAT'S what is clouding your dishes and glassware. It will take 2-3 washes to clean them up, and then regular use after that. I have really hard water, and my glassware run through the dishwasher is crystal clear because of this stuff.

I think everyone is just a little bit bothered by clutter. But, when you consider that they are so many things that are out there waiting to drive you crazy, it makes sense to eliminate those things that you have some control over. However, if you can learn to tolerate clutter (when you can't do anything about it,) you can probably be content with anything!
