Trying to decide if Red Goldens are right for me!!!

Hi, so this year I wanna try my hand at some red golden pheasnts, I really like them I mean their coloring and all.
I contacted this guy whois selling last years hatchings for $30 per males and $40 pre females, I'm looking to get a trio.
Questions,
Is that a good price?
Will last year hatch pheasants be laying this season?
When do they get all their wonderful colors?
