Trying to Decide - UPDATE w/ PICS (1st Post)

I *think* TSC has a minimum of a 6 chick purchase, at least in my area. Also in my area, they only carry straight run, so you may get some roosters as well as hens.

I'm curious if they'll keep put rabbits too! report back!

Ours doesn't have a minimum, and they only had pullets in their last shipment.

Perhaps some TSCs are just helping BYCers get a head start on "chicken math". As in, "Well, I went to TSC to get 3 chicks, but they said I had to buy 6, so that must be the same as having 3 chicks."

In KY you are required to buy 6. The manager of TSC told me it was due to state regulations. Something about chickens being deemed agricultural rather than pets and this preventing someone just buying a chick for a pet.

This did not make a lot of sense to me and I got the impression he was just passing on info passed on to him. Anyway, the state government wishes me to own at least 6 chickens if I'm going to own any and I'm selflessly going above and beyond the call of duty by owning . . . I'm not actually sure how many I have right now, at least 30 but probably more as lots of chicks have popped out of the incubator in the last few weeks.

My ducklings are extremely messy! One of them is really skittish, the other is hesitant to be held, but after a few moments settles down. My chick, on the other hand, LOVES to be held. She is currently chirping, hoping someone will come pick her up. And she isn't messy at all.
