trying to decide what ducks are best for us

My vote is for welsh harlequins, they can be dressed to look just like a white bird, they lay great, most go broody, they are beautiful, so they are kinda everything in one beautiful package, and to mix it up i would get calls too they are just so darn cute! c:

Id go heavy ducks so they dont fly away.

Rouen are nice. so are blue sweedish

Welsh Harlequins don't fly. lay lots of egg which are great for baking etc.. You could also get several breeds since you have lots of room.. Cayugas, anconas, rouen & golden cascades are pretty.. Have also always wanted some Australian spotted too..

lol i'm looking at a lot of eggs on ebay and on here... i'm trying to sit on my hands and not buy any till i decided what i want to stick with! lol When i was a little girl we used to go steal baby ducks from the mommas and play with them for a little while and then give them back! We loved them they were so cute they'd just follow you all over! My pond is great too its fed by a small creek that runs through our property! Hubby said he'd get a area set up for them so they could go away at night. When i had the muscovies they just slept on the water or on some big logs that are in the pond! I will definately let you guys know what i decided on! I see some call ducks on ebay i'm watching and there are some runners but i dunno about the runners... i dont know why but i'm not a huge fan lol

I just type in duck hatching eggs or the specific breed of ducks i'm looking for... i do the same for my chicken eggs!

You can order ducklings from Metzers out of California, or Holderreads ... Mine came from Metzers cause I didn't need 10 ducklings.. Holderreads min. order is 10 ducklings.. Metzers min order is 2 ducklings and you can have them sexed.. Holderreads are straight run.. usually 50/50 . Plus they have gold and silver Phase.

Holderreads are breed to standard..

Metzers are hatchery but are still good if you aren't going to be showing them..

I love my metzers WH's. I'm not going to be showing them.

There are several members on here who offer hatching eggs from holderreads stock, and one other member who has their own strain. hopefully they will chime in..
