Trying to get it right

It's 50 years since I last kept chickens. A lot has changed since then. I was a young Mom with two little ones just moved from the big city to a rural Community. I went shopping and saw 2 tiny little yellow fluffy chicks for sale and brought them home on a whim. I called hubby at work as I knew that by the time he came home he would have calmed down - he did but not much! However looking at them he could see them failing so he was out in the garden with a torch digging up worms! They soon came back to life and he spent every odd moment over the next couple of weeks buying wood which we could not really afford and making a hen house. They grew into 2 fine looking cockerels but neither of them liked me. Hubby was fine and so were the children but their hatred of me got so bad that when I left the house they would not let me back. They were culled and given away. After that I had 3 hens from somewhere but they kept eating their eggs so again I gave them away. Now I'm giving it another go but I am doing lots of research before I have my 3 rehomed battery hens.
This site I found by accident and it is fantastic!! All you folks from all over the world helping each other how wonderful is that?
It has taken me a week to read all through the forum and I feel confident that I will know what I am doing when my ladies come in a few weeks. I will be an avid reader as everything is so interesting. Thank you.
