I personally would not feed raccoons, nor allow them to eat the cat food. You should bring it in at night. Remember the old rule: "A population will increase to the limit of its food supply"
That is how famines have kept human and animal populations in check for millions of years. Feeding raccoons gets them in better condition, so they are more fertile and have larger and healthier litters, etc. You see what I mean? The same goes for feeding feral cats, unless you TNR.
PS I am a cat and dog lover--and really love animals of all kinds. I don't want to kill any predator, so my focus is on keeping them OUT (electric fence, etc.).
