Trying to go corn-less

Cats cannot digest grains, so any decent cat food should be meat-based.

That may be true BUT most cat food contains Grain Products of some sort unless it posted as Grain Free.

Here is a well known brand of cat food.
corn meal, corn gluten meal, ground whole wheat, brewers rice, soy flour,
And here is there, "healthful life" cat food.
corn gluten meal, soybean meal, ground yellow corn, ground wheat, animal fat preserved with mixed-tocopherols (form of Vitamin E), salmon, chicken, powdered cellulose, brewers rice, soybean hulls.

Here is a brand that says there, "the healthiest pet food in the world" (at 34.00 a 15 lb bag way over priced in my book)
brown rice, rice, flaxseed

Chris,
You should not do that... It just adds to my paranoia about how our world is owned by Monsanto and just about every food and feed is corn and soy based.... We read labels at the grocery... So me the nut case I am avoiding corn "extractions" and any soy other than fermented....
Pretzels: Contain Corn syrup......

Herring (My favorite this time of year..Guess what... Corn syrup......

Any diet with corn and or corn gluten as a main protein source is definitely not the "healthiest" pet food for cats in the world and I'll stand behind that. I was in veterinary medicine and behavior for over 20 years and I studied animal nutrition more than many in the field as I knew it was a key to their health. It's all about what is deemed as protein. It may be considered protein (corn products) but it is hardly bio-available for cats or dogs. Semantics plays a big part in marketing and unfortunately the general public have no way to know this unless they do a fairly intensive search. Big companies have big money and excellent marketing. Grain of any kind should never make up most of a cat or dog food. Grain free diets are the best for most cats (there are always exceptions) and it is becoming more widely understood by the public. Sooner or later the big companies will have to change their formulas or create a bigger line to choose from or lose a growing percentage of customers. They will need to not only raise the protein % but the quality of the protein in cat and dog foods as these predators are created to utilize meat protein much better than grain.

Soy--ugh, such a good food being overused. They already have been seeing problems with too much soy in the American diet as it not only mimics specific hormones (estrogen) but they are seeing a trend with other abnormalities. Its fine to eat it a few days a week but it is being used in so many foods we eat (read labels) that it can become more harmful than beneficial. Fermented soy is also better for you and the type you may wish to buy.

I sprout oats, barley, BOSS, and bird seed (millet, and milo) for my chickens. I also avoid corn but mainly because it is GMO.

Costco brand does not have any corn. It's a very good food.

Are you getting, "Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Cat Formula" from Costco? It is named Kirkland but Friskies/Purina put it out.

Chris

Yeas, it's Kirkland. Just because it's made in a Purina mill doesn't mean it's a Purina product though. Many higher-end animal foods are made in a variety of the big-name mills, but using a different recipe. Triple Crown horse feeds are made by different lesser-quality mills all over the country. It's very common.

But the label on my bag of cat food doesn't list any corn products in the ingredients. There are some other grains, but no corn or soy.
