Trying To Help A Chicken Egg Hatch

Just wrap it in a warm moist paper towel. If the vessels seem to dry up and become very thin and thread-like, you can try to make a larger hole in the membrane so the chick can pop his head out. The most important thing at this point is to decide now, and do what you're going to do, and leave it be. It's the back and forth, in and out of the bator that's going to cause more issues.

the moist paper towel is so that the membrane doesnt dry out and go rubbery. my first hatch i did the same thing you have done, i was just so excited for them to hate that before i went to bed on day 21 there was one that had broke through a little and was peeping i just wanted it to come out so i helped. i've learned since not to that chick surivied and everything but sometimes they wont. hatching chicks is a learning experience and we all have made mistakes doing it and thats how we have learned. dont feel to bad

well, when i pull up a youtube video of chicks chirping it makes MY chick start kicking around alot, but still cant seem to make its way out.....how long does it usually take for the veins to get small and stop flowing?

The sound of the chirping encourages the other chicks to hatch.
Its like they are saying "its time!"
I wouldn't worry too much, just leave it alone and let it do its thing.
Since its responding thats a good sign.
Chicks can take a long time to hatch, but they have been doing it for hundreds of years without to many problems.
I find that the more human interference there is, the more problems with the hatch their this.
They will completely hatch when they are ready (its very tiring for them).

Good luck!

I do not know the answer to that question, but i would imagine that will happen when they are closer to hatching.
It seems like it just wasn't ready to hatch when you helped it out.
That could be do to a few factors, one being maybe the temp was kinda lower then usual (so they hatch later).
Its best to just not rush these things.
Maybe look up some more threads on here about eggs hatching late.
Or look up a thread about "how long it takes for the veins to shrink"
There are a few threads where the chicks hatched a few days late.
