TSC bedding poisoned chicks

Are their crops full maybe eating it and impacting them? chick in pic looks like a full bulging crop.
no. :( i fact I’d say their crops were mostly empty. I wasn’t here most the day though. The chick last night I assumed was just a weak chick since it had so recently hatched. the majority of them died this afternoon. my poor husband was in a panic thinking he did something wrong. (I’m super particular about my chickens) this most recent chick vomited up slime before he did the death stretch and passed

Oh my! I read a post recently from someone who was going to buy this for their baby chicks because it was half the price of the other.Know we know why.

I’m going to send in a few chicks a sample of their feed & a sample of the bedding to Texas A&M for necropsy. I’m not letting this go. I was totally attacked of FB by people swearing it was lack of heat or cocci etc. It’s overwhelmingly frustrating & heartbreaking to see chicks die like that. this company needs to be held accountable.

Just checking on if the few survivors from the other day pulled through?

I knew this was a bad idea the moment I heard of it this year. People will say "oh, it's decaf so its okay." First of all, decaf coffee still has caffeine in it. Period, full stop, do your research. Any coffee addict who has tried to quit knows this fact! It's not a lot of caffeine, but chicks are itty bitty and it doesn't take much. Second, it is small enough to eat. Makes me worry about impaction. Just all around does not seem like a good idea.

I don't know if your chicks will make it, but I suspect not. Thank you for sharing your story as we need to get the word out that this is not a safe product!

all my chicks started dying after i switched to this bedding. I cannot believe I did such a stupid thing w/o first doing researching on this new product.
So to be clear this bedding was sold by TSC but is a product that can be bought elsewhere. Please consider editing your title to "coffee ground bedding"..., Looking at the manufacturers website it's also sold at Rural King. Interestingly enough, the contact us page on their website comes back blank!

I did see this on the TSC website though they're repeating what "powered by coffee" has stated..

Just yesterday I saw someone suggest that if there was a picture of ducks on the feed then it must be good for ducks. I told them never trust pictures and I clearly see a picture of a chicken on this bag. However, the safety stated on this bag indicates, even reading the directions doesn't protect you, :hmm As a non food product, I doubt ANY testing was done or required to make such a claim.

I am sorry for your loss, :hugs

and thankful for your commitment to see this through with necropsies and samples! :highfive:

@humblehillsfarm I saw a thread with you using starbucks.. have you used this bedding for chicks?
