Last year we got our 5 baby chicks from a friend, but they did not hatch any this year so I was just going to get some from TSC when they come in Thursday, what has your luck been with getting chicks and duckling from TSC... Good - Bad what?

how many hens to how many roosters is good.. I want as few rooster as possible... (don't like the one I have He is gorgeous but mean...) I have 4 Ice Browns that were one on Sunday, and the Rooster the same age... I would like to have about 8 more hens,

thank you

We thought about it.. our duck and one of your hens has been sitting on eggs off and on but not enough to hatch any... and we have a friend with a incubator but did not want to learn how to do that right now... buying them seemed easier right now..... But fair is in August I may try to get it and hatch some during fair week....

Thank you everyone for your input..

I'll be honest, the only thing I would ever buy again from TSC would be a hybrid breed such as a comet. If I want anything of quality I would go to breeders, this way you get quality stock and are putting money in well deserved hands. That's just my opinion. Last year, I bought most of my birds from TSC and I also bought from breeders, the TSC ones lived and thrived just fine for me. Then again, my TSC has caring staff-not everyone is so lucky!

I guess its just a matter of what you want, what kind of birds you are going to raise and how carried away you are going to get with your chicken venture. March 31st will mark a year of chicken ownership for me and I can't believe how addicted I've become! Of course, the more you hang around BYC......need I say more!! LOL

I have a insider, inside TSC in our town, LOL and have been told they will be there April 1 in the AM and I am suppose to get a text when they get them in so I can run in to town and get them right away... so they will not have had them long when I pick out mine...

Hopefully this works well for me... because I have seen what you have seen at our store to and I usully walk up to someone and tell them they need to fix what every is wrong ( in a very nice way)

Wife and I went to TSC with full intensions of getting our first chickens. We left with 8 chicks and 6 ducks. I now get to build another tractor. We wanted to start generic at first so that is why I went there. We picked some good looking birds but I have no idea what we have. I'm guessing the are about two weeks old. When will be able to tell what breed and sex.

I have two TSC's I can visit and both have multiple bins. Some contain "assorted pullets" while others contain "straight run". If you want to be sure of getting pullets, you can pay 60c more per chick. Of course, they can make sexing errors and/or customers pick up a straight run roo and put it down in the assorted pullets bin but....you are more likely to end up with pullets if you choose out of the pullets bin to begin with. With some breeds, you can easily tell the difference between boys and girls even as chicks. For example, barred rocks and sex links. I was able to choose a Black Sex Link pullet from the straight run bin and pay only the straight run price with the assurance I was getting a girl. You might do a little research before you go and be able to choose girls yourself out of the straight run bins.

Donna B~I'm in Michigan too. How far north are you...I'm in Coleman, MI.

I've ordered specific breeds from hatcheries but want to see what TSC has too. Just wondering if we're in the same area/stores.
