Tsc chicks

The black chick is a Mille Fleur D'Uccle and I think the red/yellow ones are Red Cochin. Wait a few days to see if they "frizzle" out feathers, hatcheries usually only sell white, black and red frizzles.

Yes, it will kill them if it is blocking their vents. I have heard that tweezers or pliers work and have used my fingernails to break the hard stuff in half. Once it is broken, it comes off easier. Be sure not to catch any part of the chick when you are doing this. Good luck!

Run warm water over the clump. Hold the chick in a reverse pistol grip, pointing it's butt toward the water stream.

As it softens a bit, pinch it gently until it begins to crumble. Keep the water flowing over it. Keep pinching gently, rather than pulling. Pretend there is a ball bearing you are rolling between your fore finger and thumb. If this doesn't come off, the chick is dead. Eventually, the stream of warm water softens that blob enough to crumble it away.

Use some Vasoline or olive oil on the raw bum when finished.

Quick question,

Any reason not to preemptively oil their backsides a little to prevent sticking from happening in the first place? Would only do it for like the first 2 weeks while the fluff turns into feather around the tushies.
