TSC Finally Cured My Chick Fever?

There was a long thread on here last week about sick and sad chickens at TSC stores. Call their headquarters and also see if they would accept outside help i.e. boy/girl scouts, 4H clubs, Sr. citizens, just people to help them thru chick days!

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who thought the chick's situation was unacceptable. I'll make sure to call TSC in the morning to talk to the manager, I know that he's gone for the day now.

I was really shocked at the condition of the chick cage too, the employees at our store are always so pleasant and helpful and the store is usually very clean. During the first two weeks of "Chick Days" the cages were clean and the chicks had food. Everything looked really good. I guess maybe they're tired of taking care of the chicks?? Of course, I also found out yesterday that you're supposed to sign some sort of paperwork every time you buy chicks. Has anyone else heard of this? I've bought chicks at TSC twice so far this year, 6 two weeks ago and 7 last week, no one has ever asked me to sign anything. The first time I bought chicks was after I had gone in to special order some chicks, maybe I didn't have to fill out paperwork because they already had my special order form?? We're at TSC several times a week so they all recognize us every time we go in.

I don't really want to get the store or employees in too much trouble. TSC is my absolute FAVORITE store!! At the same time, the conditions those chicks were in was really horrible. One of the employees actually walked by and made a comment about how bad they smelled. Ugh! Great, now I'm feeling so guilty about not going back today to either get more chicks or to clean their cage!! Because what if they actually got more chicks in like they thought they were going to. I don't want to get anymore. I did end up with three last night and I was so concerned about what could have caused the one chick's eyes to bug out of her head that I have these newest three in a separate cage just in case it's something catchy. They're plenty warm and have clean bedding, clean food and clean water. I'm sure they don't mind that they're the only three in the cage, they're probably just happy not to have anyone stomping on them and/or pecking at them. Which reminds me, I've been wondering what's up with that 6 chick minimum? The woman at the register yesterday said that it's a federal law to make sure someone doesn't buy just one chick. Besides company and warmth, why would it be bad to just get one chick? If you're going to have a heat source in your brooder, it doesn't seem that warmth should even be an issue.

Does anyone have the link to the thread about the sick/sad chicks at TSC? I've been searching and I'm not finding it. Thanks!

I think a call to the manager is the right thing. If we don't object to wrongs how can they ever be righted!!
