TSC Mess Up

That is such a shame! Feeling more and more lucky that our TSC had a knowledgeable chicken person working there...they truly should be providing some sort of standardized educational information to the stores along with the spring peeps!

Maybe your call to the district manager will help them to realize they need to develop a plan for this.
After all, until last year, they were just letting ANYONE grab and squeeze those chicks, and now they finally roped them off and limited the amount of contact they have with inexperienced people and diseases. I wonder if that change was brought about by a phone call from one of our forum members? :)

I would call up the corporate food chain. This is happening all over. I just had a bad experience here at the TSC in Leesburg, Fl. Not the first person knew how to take care of chicks. I pointed out to the several dead chicks in different brooders. Lights turned off cold piled chicks. Even a dead duck. Employees said it was the person who picked up the chicks from the post office. Said it took 3 hours to get (it'a a 10 min. drive on a bad day).

I will Never buy any chicks from TSC, or send anybody to them after today. I will be calling and writing corporate office.

I had the same thing happen to me. My husband and I went and got 6 chicks from the red pullet bin at our local TSC. A week later, his uncle brought 9 more to us from HIS local TSC, supposedly from the red pullet bin. Well, the 9 that he brought us are all white, just like yours, and the 6 that my hubby and I got from OUR local TSC are reds.....

I'm a bit upset by this, but after doing some research, it seems to me like they are Plymouth Rocks.

They look like the chicks we picked up about a month ago at TSC. They were in a bin "Mixed Pullets." The possible breeds were White Leghorn, Tetra Tint, Golden Comet or AmberLink. I still don't know what ours are...but they look just like yours.

Very interesting. Was just at our local TSC with my son yesterday. They had a bin of chicks labeled "red pullets" but we noticed the color was off for a "red" chick plus they were sprouting little white wing feathers.

And yeah, sometimes you'll get an employee with knowledge about chickens, most of the time not. They just work there, TSC happens to sell chicks a few weeks out of the year, they don't all have chickens at home. But it would be nice if they could at least have some basic info about what breeds they are getting into the store, that info shouldn't be that hard for them to get.

Tetra tints. I have six that I bought last year. Some of them are flighty like leghorns and some are more calm. Have one that likes to sit on my shoulder and talk to me. All in all I am very pleased with them being the first chickens I ever raised.

If it helps at all, there are general coloration rules that chicks follow. The next time you go in looking for red chicks, look for chicks that are either brownish red, or have caramel colored patterns on them. A pure white/yellow chick will only feather out to be a white or buff bird. If you choose chicks that have little caramel colored racing stripes, those are Red SLs, and feather their primaries white first. But don't panic, their body feathers come in red and white.

Hope that helps
