TSC minimum purchase

Our TS is brand new and super clean. Ours seems to be pretty decent. Not sure how knowledgeable the workers actually were. But any specific birds I asked for were boxed up no problem. They actually showed them to me to make sure they were the ones I had asked for. I think however I will be buying older pullets from our nearby Amish.
I think it varies with the manager and employees. Last year was rough for the chicks but this year our local store has been great. Even if the employees haven’t been super knowledgeable they have been taking great care of the chicks

Most states do not regulate a minimum sales number on chicks and ducklings. One person has posted in a previous thread about this issue that Tennessee does have a statute but at this time it is the only state that I know of that has such a regulation.

This is a TSC decision to have this rule.

It is also a NJ statute.

Rural king has a minimum also. I think it's 4 but it maybe 6 this year. My husband was there yesterday and said there was dead chicks in their broader too. That why we didn't buy from there.

That is great news that you are getting 4 instead of just 1.
Because why would you risk exposing your existing one week old flock to a new flock member that could carry a disease and why would you be risking the new chick to be picked on by your flock. Your 10 chicks already bonded as a flock. A week makes a big difference in a life of chicken. Age doesn't matter, only the situation. Imagine going to a new school in a different country as a kid, knowing nobody in your class...That is the situation for the chick. The other chicks already have formed a clique.

This is a good point also. I have learned a lot about raising chickens the BYC way versus the way that we raised them on the farm for specifically meat and eggs rather than as pets! Good info here

Also adding that I have read differing opinions on this so I suppose that it ultimately comes down to what works for you and your situation :) now I wouldn’t mix two day olds with four week olds in the same brooder but then again people have successfully done just that so everyone has a different experience

I am in search of a pekin duckling. I found a place that has has min of 2, but it seems to be 2 ducks or 2 chicks. I explained my situation, told them I had no problem with 1 and 1. They see no problem with it because eventually the duck will be with other ducks.

Well my husband has said that I can go get four tomorrow since he’s awesome and hopefully they still have the silkies there weren’t many left :celebrate I would buy from my local feed store but they let children walk by and I saw two little girls trying to see if the chicks could fly while no one was looking:barnie
This is just as bad as letting kids run through the department/grocery stores, touching and meddling with everything.

Get a damn babysitter and leave the brats at home. I'd like to tell the parents a thing or two. If they're gonna act like animals and out of control, then put them on a leash.

Every time I go out, I got to deal with loud, obnoxious kids running up and down the aisles, while clueless mom is across the store in her own world, not keeping track of them. I'd like to slap her and the kids, too.

I used to work at tractor supply and that rule drove me nuts. And it was a mini of 6 chicks or ducklings. But we were not jerks about it, if there were only 3 left in the bin we would sell them and just put in the computer that there at 6, it's not hard to do, just can't do it with everyone who just wants one because they are cute.
