TSC UGGGH!

Our TSC is sold out of ducks.

They do, however, at our local TSC have a person who just deals with the chicks while they're there. I had to stop in for some feed this morning and dang it if they didn't have the remaining assorted reds on clearance.

*sigh*
Think my husband will notice the additional brooder and 18 chicks?

Our other TSC doesn't have a person singly for the chicks, but they do manage to keep them clean while they're there.

In my experience, animal control is not exceptionally helpful. At least you got a few of the sweeties out and into a loving home.

Its scary but it boils down to the ole mighty dollar our TSC has many employees at all times and one employee just over the chicks ducks and rabbits. While shopping for our 50 babies we had on order from Meyer hatchery we stopped to look at the babies and the Guy working the area nearly yelled at us telling me we HAD to buy 6 if we wanted to get any now mind you I have 50 pds of chick feed 4 feeders 4 waterers 2 heat lamps and 2 bulbs in my cart . I picked up my purse and told my son we will shop else where. I don't need people barking at me. We bought everything from the hatchery they were wonderful they even took the time to show my son how the chick develops in a egg. I will shop with Meyers again.

They sell feed not normally animals, it is not a pet store, by the time they got someone trained well (if they had a trainer) the season would be over. If you don't like what you see complain to the management, then to animal control or any animal rights groups, maybe they will quit selling peeps and you can look elsewhere for your stock.

If you don't know anything about animals, how can you assist someone with a feed purchase?

It's like going in to an auto parts store and getting waited on by someone who doesn't know a car from a tricycle.

I don't expect to be waited on by a vet tech, but SHEESH! At least know that "the yellow ones" are Pekings

In general I have similar problems with my local TSC. I've said it before on an earlier post and I'll say it again. They're not too bright in that store. We get feed from them but that's about it. Anything else I'll do the drive to a family run store that has more of what I need for my 10 acres.

We do the 30 minute drive every week (mostly to look at the babies) to buy our supplies and pass up 2 other feed stores. The closest one I pass up because they seem very rude and don't have much of a selection. The other I pass up because they have a 6 min limit (other feed store in same town doesn't) and because the employees there are very standoffish and don't want to help.

The store I go to gets hundreds and sometimes over a thousand birds each week. The owner is there everyday and almost all day, his wife comes in with their kids and they all clean the store, not the animal area. The kids also go play with the birds and rabbits and will help customers with selecting chicks and catching them.

Agree duckling can have a tub in a mess in a short time, doesnt mean they are sick.

No reason to call animal control, just tell someone better way to keep them. Most of the worker are not poulty people, no reason to start trouble, show them the proper way.

Well, I just have to give the TSC in Ravenel, SC a

There is someone there most of the time who raises chickens and ducks, and he knows his stuff. His name is Durwood, and he's great. I told him about BYC, and gave him the URL last time I was in. I hope he joins.

It all depends upon the people they can find.

I was at from arkansas TSC yesterday and I was NOT happy and I told them right out that they were not doing a good job at all. hunderds of chicks struggling and dying and a ton of people were complaining not just about the conditions but the sign list. they had NO feed NO water there was a ton of starving chicks and dead ones in a mess and not just chicks the ducks too.

I was heartbroken.. I am pleased that they do have a 6 chick limit thats all I can say because it prevents people for just buying them out of cuteness for easter but not sure if thats any better then walking over to see a bunch of dead/dying/starving chicks and not being able to do a thing about it and the people working at THAT tsc did not care a bit I have seen places where they do care but just the closest TSC to me does not care.

I went to TSC yesterday to buy ducklings for a friend. I was happy to see all the chick and ducklings look healthy. I was tempted to buy a bantam, but thought the 6 ducklings would trample the poor thing so I resisted. But I found myself going back there this morning. The ducklings that were left were fine, the red-sex link chicks fine, the bantams were fine, but the one bin with cornish rock chicks disgusted me. There were at least 12 dead on the bottom. I found a girl who had no idea, and she removed the deceased ones. I asked her where they came from and she told me Mt. Healthy, but that when Fed Ex delivered them yesterday, the box was crushed. I went home with a sick stomach
