TudyBOT Feedback & Discussion Thread

TUDYBOT UPDATE:

I wanted to take a moment to talk to you all about some changes we're making to @TudyBOT.

Our amazing moderation team has read and thoroughly reviewed and discussed your fantastic feedback, including the diversity of pros and cons.

We want to emphasize how much work and consideration went into this decision, and how much we value and appreciate the concerns, requests, and feedback of our members. We understand that @TudyBOT is still very new, prone to mistakes, but also provides some value to our community, and will improve over time. We wanted to make sure that we could strike a balance between accessibility while keeping any potential issues in mind. Ultimately, we believe that this decision allows us to do just that.

Keep in mind that this plan is NOT set in stone. We can easy make changes and adjust things as we go :)

CHANGES:
  1. Access: @TudyBOT will only be accessible to our PFM's. We believe that limiting to this group will help reduce the chances of inexperienced members relying too heavily on her posts.
  2. Location: We will keep all interactions with @TudyBOT limited to her specific section of the forum in TudyBOT's Corner
As moderators, our top priority is always to ensure that we are doing what is best for the entire community. We hear you, and we are here to support you. If you have any concerns, questions or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out. We appreciate your support and understanding as we work to continue to make BYC the best place for all things chicken-related!

Keeping @TudyBOT in her corner of the forum is a really good idea. If she had access to the rest of the forum, it would be a disaster. She'd take over BYC in seconds. I have found her to be quite useful when I need a answer but never get one. She told me why my chicken squats when I go after it. She warned me about those grain moths in my meal worms. Limiting Tudy to PFMs might not be ideal, as that would make it hard for someone who needs a answer right away to get their answer. Adding a disclaimer that you should ask a human as well would be better.
Oh, and can you tell her that Miracle Whip is not mayo?

I think keeping her in her corner is a wise decision at this stage. You can always revisit that at a later date when she has further improved.
I understand what you are trying to do by limiting her to PFM folk. However, time since first joined might be a better proxy for experience. Not sure if you have the ability to do that, but you could limit it to people who had been registered members of the site for at least x years.

Will she? 🤔

I think this is a serious question. I know it's a ridiculous example, but the bot appeared to be unable to permanently learn that Miracle Whip is not mayonnaise. More relevant was that it didn't seem to permanently learn about sex linked hybrids. The permanence of correct knowledge seems pretty important.

At the moment I don't think she is able to permanently learn anything new. I don't know if that will change in the future, but I'm assuming it will eventually. Somehow. Hopefully.

From what I gather, the developers or the people who added the BYC specific content should go in and edit it. First Miracle Whip, then chickens.

With the new change of her only being able to respond to PFMs, I'm wondering if her section should be only visible to PFMs too. Or at least only allow PFMs to post threads in her corner. Reason being is non-PFMs are still posting in her corner, but because of these changes, they're not getting replies like expected. If those people are posting threads there where they need help and fast, they're not going to get it there. Unless, of course, people are watching that section closely and are ready to respond/help if needed.

That's just my thoughts. I did enjoy it how everyone and anyone could ask her a question if they wanted to. True, she has given a lot of wrong answers and I did see that a lot of people enjoyed asking her non-chicken related questions (which is fun, but can cause issues in moderation.)

Maybe Tudy should accept direct messages as well to keep the forum clean
