Ifthey do have it, I'll put them down. Don't worry, the same thing could have happened to anyone. I can't wait to buy some more chicks from you guys in the spring. Also, I might have to come get some more honey from you guys soon, that stuff went way quicker than I thought! The girls all started acting like they had sore throats so they could have more. It took me three days to catch on to the fact that they were playing me.

LOL That is hilarious. My daughter does that, too- but it's good for her and we have plenty so I usually give in unless she's asking for it several times a day!

We do still have plenty of honey for sale, we lost a 5 gallon bucket a few weeks ago when a stack of buckets tipped over- let me tell you cleaning up 5 GALLONS of honey off the dining room floor is a CRAZY mess!!!!

Buckets are now only allowed to stack 2 high! Message me if you need my phone number.

Rinda, just in case i get one lonely little bird out of the hatch do you have any newly hatched babies that you could sell me maybe one of? I know they are better off with a buddy. Aren't we all?

Well, we aren't doing so great with shipped eggs this year either, got 3/24 (2 died within days), 3/15 and 5/13. At least one of those batches was shipped in the BAD heat so I'm assuming that affected our outcome. But we just won an e-bay auction and it was a decent price, so even if we only get dark egg layers out of it we will be fine with that. (Supposed to be French Black Copper Maran).

On the chickies- absolutely! as of right now available I have two black Ameraucanas, a Lakenvelder, a BBR OEGB, and a mystery (maybe a Sultan) that hatched Tuesday Sept 11, and a batch of Ameraucana's due to hatch Friday the 21st. Wait and see how your hatch goes then we can make plans from there. How are Camilla and Pepper doing?

Well, so happy to have some cooler weather. Hanging out with the flock is more fun!

Anyone planning to go to Coweta Friday night? I might go. I put the darling man on a plane this morning so no one has to know if i go. tee hee

Hatch went pretty well. Got one yesterday afternoon but she is not getting up to walk. Just lays there moving her legs and spins around. That's Alpha.

Ginger popped out this morning full of herself. Darling little thing is all dressed up and no place to go. She's dancing all over the incubator and stops to sleep and rest briefly before dancing around again. I'm afraid she's danced right over Little Alpha a few times.
It'll be better when they get in the brooder.

I've left two stubborn eggs in with them.I don't think'm giving them another 24 hours before I give up. Anyone want to assist in an eggtopsy? I don't think I have the stomach for it.

Elbert you have the nicest premises. I believe your birds are really going to do well under your care.
Rinda, I still might need one of your Amerauacana's from the Friday hatch. Will have to see how well Alpha does out of the incubator and into the brooder!

FYI do your eggtopsy outside on something disposable unless you are certain there was a chick in it... I popped one open in the dining room after last hatch and it was ROTTEN... EEEEWWWWWW! I always check mine just to see if I was right on my candling and fertility particularly with our own laid eggs. Pretty sad with our last hatch, had 12 BBR OEGB eggs in and only ONE hatched. Almost all the rest were nearly fully developed. Think my humidity was too low, but I've got that fixed now.

ETA: Friday's hatch is starting EARLY!

Can't wait to see what's in there in the morning!

I just love hatching, it is so exciting to see those little babies pop out and fluff up! So far this morning 5/10 are hatched and two more pipped, just waiting to hear from the last 3 eggs!

I guess my thermometer is not accurate and I need to adjust the temp in my incubator down a bit- I'm hearing that hatching a day early means my temp was just a little to high.

How did you fix your humidity? I think you have a styro incubater like me.

Increase your surface area of "water"- I added a large shallow bowl with a sopping wet towel in it- that way if a chick somehow climbed in it wouldn't drown.

I have heard some people take those cheap kitchen sponges and get them wet and then put them UNDER the wire floor of the incubator. AND you can toss them in the microwave when you are done to kill any bacteria and reuse them! ANYTHING to get more wet surface areas basically. I also finally went to Lowe's this week and bought a hygrometer/thermometer combo so I can keep a more accurate eye on it. So far it is sitting about 50-60% since I added the bowl, I could probably up it a little more but they are hatching out fine so I am trying to sit on my hands to keep from opening the incubator too much. Our incubator didn't come with anything at all I've been using an old garden window thermometer.

So far we are at 100% hatch- the eggs that haven't pipped yet were added a day or two after the rest so I'm not too worried about them yet. No blue ameraucanas so far yet. We lost the two blue chicks we have managed to hatch out so far and ALL the rest have been black- genetically speaking we should be getting 25% blue chicks but not seeing that so far!

NOTE: Built my first chicken plucker today, will be trying it out Saturday as we have our first slaughter event scheduled for then. I think we have 4 or 5 black copper maran roos that are going in the freezer! Wish me luck!
