Turken Thread for posting pics and talking about your birds! :)

I forgot here are some pictures

I have a 1 1/2 yr old hen who lays for me no matter how cold it gets she is great. She lays large brown eggs daily. I have other hens that will stop if its to hot or to cold it doesn't seem to bother her at all. I would say if you want an intersting looking flock of birds with great personality get turkens. I have a hen that is a great mom.

My turken pullet has only been laying for about a month or so but she is reliably laying a large brown egg 5-6 days a week despite some very cold temps (-30 with the wind chill). Anybody else have turkens and live in colder climates? So far my two doing as well as the fully feathered chickens we have.

Oh wow. Turkens are said to be cold hardy, but good to see people with actual experience responding in the affirmative.

Mine are either good or very good producers(hens who keep laying until late in the year, do a hard molt then start laying again before the feathers are fully grown or right after). Many of my hens aren't that big but their eggs are large, some lay extra large. Have pullets a tad bigger(trying to get large, heavy turkens again) that just started laying their first eggs and they are large sized already. Wonder if these will lay jumbos once they are mature. Mild winter area here but summers are 110-120F and they produce well during the heat too.

Since the thread was buried I decided to resurect it. Figured some more conversation about the great Turken breed could happen.

Well I only have two, 1 pullet and 1 cockeral, both about 6-7 months old. They are by far the friendliest and quirkiest of the bunch. The pullet is by far the best forager. I'm really impressed with their hardiness, temperament, foraging and laying abilities so far. So much that I'm planning on getting more in the spring. Planning on any extra roos we get going to freezer camp. Has anyone raised Turkens (NNs) for meat purposes? When is the optimal time for this particular breed to be processed?
