Turkens

Yes, at 8 weeks three are for sure boys and one girl...just like my TSC picking. I did see a one feather fluff on that one white cockerel. Still, he’s gorgeous.

NN are so ugly they’re cute as chicks. But they are really some of the healthiest chickens. They seem to be more resistant to a lot of illnesses that other breeds aren’t.

I’ll be honest in why I chose a few NN. I knew that I would eventually be slaughtering chickens and was unsure of exactly where the jugular that I would be cutting was. And with the NN you can literally see everything under their skin, especially as chicks. I know that sounds terrible, but I wanted to know so I wouldn’t blunder around when the time came. Ironically, the first bird I ever had to slaughter was my white NN. He was beautiful and rightfully named Pretty Boy Floyd, aka PBF, but he was a serial rapist that was he!!bent on becoming my resident chicken marauder. Then his attention turned toward me. Not cool! Not cool at all!

We made amends and he tasted even better than he looked.

Hello Mimi,
Two of my 3 roos have started crowing. I was looking online and found a no crow collars. Have you heard of these? Thank you again for your help.

Well, I have heard of the no crow collar, but I have never used one. I actually really love to hear my cockerel crow (not right in my ear though) and I live where it doesn’t matter if they crow. I realize some people want or need to dial down a rooster’s crowing. Since I haven’t ever even seen a no crow collar I don’t feel I can make a sound judgment on one. However, I am generally not a fan of anything that mechanically alters something about an animal. It just seems a little inhumane to me, but then again I don’t truly know. I would do a lot of research on the hazards of these collars before I actually used one. Good luck with these little birds.

I suppose it won’t hurt to try. Just make sure to follow the directions precisely and always keep a check on his growth as compared to when you first put it on. Stuff like that always makes me worry.

My cockerel is just about to outgrow his metal NPIP legband. I worried I will need to remove it before the state comes back to test my birds again. They come every 6 months.

Neat thing with naked necks is you can make any breed a naked neck how the gene works. I have a percentage breeding chart if anyone is interested.
I have some pure breed naked necks, had some that were white silkie white jersey giant crosses one had black skin, and currently have a few white jersey giant naked necks.

They look like girls to me. The one with the floppy comb is likely a cross with leghorn at some point I think, looks like a leghorn comb.

Yes, EMERSON to me look Like a cross between more then Two breeds, they are around 4 months.
