Turkenstein25's Turkey Talk for 2015

Congrats on all the babies.

Hope they continue to hatch for you.

Had 3 eggs hatching. 1 is out. 1 external pipped. 1 pipped wrong end died.

#8 is hatched! #9 is still working on pipping...does it always spread out this far? With my Easter hatch they we're all hatched in 48 hours...these started hatching Wednesday.,,and there are a couple that when handling are active, but are much smaller...

This just a guess on my part.

If the hen got on and off nest and the eggs got moved some got cooler than others and slowed down incubation. Some may have started early whilecshe was still laying.

Incubator were all set at same time and temp was constant. So all hatched within a day of each other.

I'll keep the bator going till I don't see signs of life...

She's been an excellent mother! When I went to put #7 in with her yesterday she realized it wasn't quite dry and she called it to her and used her beak to guide it under her and sat, this morning I couldn't tell it from the other 6

I've got her in a brooder hutch with 1/4 inch wire right now...it's small quarters, about 5 ft x 3 ft... But it's just temporary till I can get her pen escape proof for the babies...all I have right now is 1 inch chicken wire, and her pen is chain link...so I want them at least big enough to not escape the chicken wire...I'll give them some yard time for good behavior while they grow...Lol

I put out live traps to catch a possible predator, lost 2 pullets early this morning...think it might be a coon...

CowboysAngel I hope your girls continue to hatch great! Sorry about the predator.

WalnutHill congrats on a great hatching season!

The last of my eggs go into LD on 6/2 I guess I will see how many the BR hens hatch.

i have some poults that range from about a month old to almost 2 months old. how old should they be before i introduce them into my flock of one tom and 2 or 3 hens. one hens is hatching out her own poults right now in a separate pen and another hen is setting. so basically there will just be one tom and one hen in the pen with the new poults

You could try introducing them and keep a divider of wire between them so they get used to each other first. Then after a week or so try putting them together. I observe mine first to make sure they are not acting aggressive twards the babies.
